and a deep respect for the richness of the Mauritian terroir..
From cane to Kana,
a transformative journey.
Our home carries the history of the land it was born from.
Just a decade ago, this estate was a sugarcane field section known as Cana. When we took it over in December 2014, we chose to keep its name - here written in Mauritian Creole - as a tribute to its memory and a way to preserve its true identity.
Today, Terganic Farmstay stands on this very land, where the story of Cana continues through Lakaz Kana - its beating heart. No longer a field of monoculture, but a place of renewal: a landscape shaped by permaculture, rooted in care, and open to all who seek reconnection with nature, food, and one another.
Here, transformation continues - from sugarcane to garden, from soil to plate, from past heritage to a living future. Welcome to Terganic Farmstay, and Lakaz Kana, where the history of the land becomes the stories of your table.

Inspired by life's resilience,
the blooming spirit of Lakaz Kana
Inspired by the spirit of the Wedding at Cana, we believe in the magic of transformation - where simple harvests from surrounding gardens becomes authentic, generous, and memorable dishes. Each plate tells a story of the land - a reflection of nature’s abundance, patience, and quiet artistry.
Lakaz Kana is a place where travelers from all over the world, and local Mauritians from every walks of life, gather around one table, celebrating together the richness of the land and the warmth of Mauritian conviviality.
Definitely not a place of loud celebrations, but rather a hideaway for presence and authenticity - a return to what is real and essential: the taste of the land, the rhythms of nature, and the sincerity of human connections. A place where life slows down to its simplest joys - shared meals, heartfelt laughter, and the beauty of small things that makes each moment meaningful.

The authentic flavors
of the island's South-East regions
In the Mauritian South-East regions, the land breathes differently.
Sea breezes, carried by the South-East trade winds, sweeps across the vast Indian Ocean - enriched in minerals and natural iodine - rises to meet the mist of the Grand Port Mountain Range. These mountains, protecting our waterways, together with the clean revitalizing valley winds, gifts us some of the purest waters, and freshest air quality on the island - and perhaps even in the world.
These fertile valleys and volcanic slopes nurture gardens that thrives in a quiet, generous rhythm. From these hills and coastal lowlands, comes our daily harvest. We source fresh fruits and vegetables, wild herbs, tropical spices, and harvests from our own gardens and neighboring family farms.
Local fishermen brings us a seasonal seafood selection from the pristine nearby lagoons, while neighboring game reserves, where deer and wild boars are raised in their natural habitats, provides us with ethically sourced meats, all reflecting the same care and respect we have for the land.

From our kitchen and gardens,
our menu du jour presents:
A welcoming refreshment.
A simple, appetizing starter.
A seasonal main course with meat, vegetables, herbs, and spices.
Local accompaniments from roots, grains, or fruits.
A homemade dessert with tropical notes.
Coffee, Tea, or Herbal infusions.

A shared home-style menu,
of the day's offerings
Our table d’hôtes follows the seasons, with one shared home-style menu each day, crafted from what the earth offers: fresh, honest, and rooted in place. Flavors shift with weather, soil, and harvests. There is no fixed menu, only what is truly in season, grown close, and prepared with care.
Before meals, our bar is open with drinks and small farm-inspired snacks, while guests gather and mingle. We serve once all guests have arrived, gathering everyone around three shared tables for a slow-food moment and a return to simple, real cooking. Every two weeks, our menu rotates to reflect the freshest produce and inspirations of the moment. Below is a taste of what the region and season may bring.
